Ultimately, it is people that affect the impact of packaging on the environment ‘plastic free’ does not necessarily mean ‘better for the environment’. Research has proved switching to alternative materials could quadruple ‘the environmental cost.’
Recycle options
We continue to actively encourage and facilitate initiatives that reduce unnecessary packaging and promote opportunities for reduce, re-use and recycle. Our Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) – resin ID code 4 is fully recyclable. For those who can’t recycle plastic film at home, our films can be recycled at carrier bag collection points at the larger stores of most major supermarkets.

We ensure our packaging is fit for purpose and as a responsible producer we are actively involved in the full life-cycle of plastic. We encourage everyone to play their part in reducing plastic packaging waste and litter to protect our environment.

Paper

  • It takes more than four times as much energy to manufacture a paper bag as it does to manufacture a plastic one.
  • The majority of paper bags are made by heating wood chips under pressure at high temperatures in a chemical
    solution. The use of these toxic chemicals contributes to both air pollution.
  • Paper bag production generates 70% more air and 50 times more water pollutants than plastic bags.
Options
Making decisions about what packaging is best for the environment involves considering factors such as its weight, bulk, water and energy use, emissions, resource efficiency and recyclability of the packaging. Switching to bulkier, heavier packaging materials could easily result in greenhouse gas emissions increasing.

Delivering Sustainability
We are dedicated to assessing and improving the sustainability footprint throughout the life-cycle of our products and services. I’m Green Polyethylene is a renewable alternative to conventional polyethylene, that is CO2 negative at source. Instead of a bi-product of fossil fuels this is produced from sugarcane crops a renewable resource that makes a significant contribution to reducing the level of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the chain.
Your product can carry the “I’m Green” seal to promote your
informed choice of material if it contains at least 35% of Green PE.

Green PE
With the same characteristics as standard polyethylene the sugar cane resin is a bio-based renewable product that is CO2 negative at source. The ethanol used to make the plastic helps capture and sequester CO2 from the atmosphere
To give you a better understanding :
200,000 tons of sugar for plastic

A saving of the annual CO2 emissions of 800,000 cars or 200,00 average families

Compostable
Our compostable films are manufactured using polymers derived from plant based sources with similar strength and properties to standard plastics. These materials have been certified by OK Compost according to EN13432, which requires more than 90% of the material to convert into biomass, CO2 and water, with no harmful residues remaining
Degradable
Made from LDPE with the inclusion of a degradable additive the material breaks down in a defined period of time. It has similar strength and elasticity properties as non-biodegradable plastics, and uses the same technologies. Considered a bio-plastic disposal should not be through existing recycling routes.
Recycled Content
Our products are available with recycled content. The current WRAP guidelines (in co-operation with the government) is for any single use plastic item to include 30% recycled content by 2025.
We have already achieved and surpassed this target. All our polythene bags are fully recyclable and can be produced in several material options.
Initial can produce bags containing both Post Consumer Waste (PCW) and
Post Industrial Waste (PIW) Post Consumer Waste (PCW) refers to
another life product, which is then recovered and re-granulated.

Many of us have used a lightweight shopping carrier bag as a replacement bin liner, or to protect toiletry bottles in luggage or as a swim or gym bag, ideal for wet clothes or muddy boots! These simple ideas have saved millions in cost and resources.

Where its durability and weight has significant Health & Safety benefits. Its low maintenance, vandal and rot resistance and durability has real advantages against conventional materials. Examples include, roads, walkways, bridges, fences, signs and street furniture
